We judge from the behavior of pigs:
1.The body is hot, especially the belly is hot;
2.Mental lethargy, overall weakness, and even inability to stand and walk normally;
3.Appetite has greatly decreased, and I can even see pigs' lips and gums turning white;
4.In severe cases, they drool constantly;
5.Short and rapid breathing, rapid heart rate.
In these cases, we can use pet monitoring pods----Animal Icu, Animal Diagnostic Imaging and Pet Oxygen Chamber
If there are three or more of the above situations, it is basically heatstroke. So what should guinea pigs do about heatstroke?
1.If the symptoms are mild and not particularly urgent (appearing to be in good spirits), you can quickly move the pig to a well ventilated area, but do not blow it with a fan.
2.You can also put the pig in a porcelain bowl, stainless steel bowl or tile floor, which is cooler.
3.Feed some electrolyte water, glucose water, drink a lot of water (you can also feed cucumbers, the same hydration).
4.If it is more severe, piggy may lie on its side and lose consciousness.
5.At this time, hold the guinea pig in cold water, but the head is not wet (not into the ears), cold water is not ice water, otherwise it will cause cramps.
6.Take it up for about ten minutes, wrap it in a damp and wrung out towel, and wait for the pig to regain consciousness in a cool and ventilated place (preferably with a natural breeze). Use an electric fan, but remember to keep the wind low and not blow it directly in front of you. Or dry the pigs a little and put them in the cage to ensure ventilation.
7.After the situation improves slightly, as before, feed electrolyte water and cucumber.
8.If the pig still cannot eat and drink independently and there is no improvement, don't hesitate to seek medical attention directly.
What causes heatstroke in guinea pigs?
1.The temperature exceeds thirty degrees in summer.
2.Staying indoors for a long time in areas with poor air circulation.
3.Drink less water.
4.Experience direct sunlight on balconies and other places.
